WHAT DO I DO?
I delved deeply into comprehending my significance and influence within physical therapy, realizing my capacity to profoundly impact those who relied on me for their journey to well-being. While my official title is a Physical Therapist, I prefer to identify as a Somatic (Body) Engineer. Constantly curious, I routinely interrogate the intricacies of "how" and "why" during client sessions. My primary aim is to act as a facilitator, constantly pondering, "In what ways can I aid you on your path to recovery?" My conviction lies in the notion that attentive listening to both the patient and their bodily responses enhances my ability to address these pressing questions.
WHAT IS AOM?
What good is strength, speed and agility if you are unable to put your body in a safe place to perform those tasks? Movement and Range of Motion are imperative to performing or improving in those areas. From the time our foot hits the ground a full body chain reaction take place that proves not only is our body truly connected but if we lack motion in different areas of our body, it can have a direct impact on your physical symptoms. We also believe that our bodies have an innate sense to protect itself and heal itself, if we “listen” to it. Somatic dysfunction and muscle inhibition are keys to helping us locate the true cause of your problem, not just focusing on the symptoms alone. Think of it this way, “If a light doesn’t turn on in your house, don’t just assume it’s because the bulb burnt out”. Our goal is to educate you on your dysfunctions and help you with corrective exercises that include movement and self mobilization, flexibility and strength. Our goal is to LISTEN to you the client as you know more about how your body functions from day to day.
HOW I DEFINE WELLNESS
I firmly believe that true Health and Wellness is derived from the Triad of Health concept. Physical/Structural, Chemical and Mental/Emotional make up each side of the Triad. My job focuses more on the structural aspect but I also have to be able to recognize when the other aspects of the triad are “driving” the physical complaint. Our bodies are such complex structures that it is difficult to ignore that nutrition, medications, stress or other traumas could be a key component in achieving physical success. I am not a psychologist nor a nutritionist but if you feel that you are affected by those factors, we can help facilitate you to those experts that can best help you achieve the other aspects of wellness.
